A genuine encounter with God isn’t always about bright lights or cinematic soundtracks. More often, it’s a quiet, big shift in the soul. If you’re wondering whether that moment you felt was “real” or just a fleeting emotion, here are the signs that something truly divine has taken place.

1. A Shift from “Me” to “Thee”
One of the most immediate markers of a divine encounter is the dissolving of the ego. This is one demonstration of our saviour Jesus in the book of
Luke 22:42 KJV
Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
In our day-to-day lives, we are the protagonists of our own dramas. However, when you brush against the Creator, your personal anxieties and status suddenly feel small—not in a way that makes you feel worthless, but in a way that makes you feel right-sized.
“True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less.” — C.S. Lewis
2. The Peace That Doesn’t Make Sense
Life can be falling apart—finances are tight, relationships are strained, or the future is a fog—and yet, you feel an inexplicable stillness. This is what many traditions call “the peace that passes understanding.”
John 14:27 KJV
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
The Sign: You aren’t peaceful because your problems are solved; you’re peaceful because you realize you aren’t carrying them alone. The Holy Spirit is given to us by Jesus to be our Comforter. It is his presence that supplies us the peace.

3. Increased Capacity for Compassion
A genuine encounter acts as a heart-softener. If you find yourself suddenly able to forgive someone who deeply hurt you, or if you feel a surge of empathy for a stranger that you’d normally ignore, that’s a divine fingerprint. You start seeing people through a lens of grace rather than judgment.
4. Deep Internal Conviction (Not Condemnation)
There is a massive difference between guilt (which pushes you down) and conviction (which pulls you up). An encounter with God often highlights areas of your life that need to change, but it does so with a sense of hope and invitation. You don’t feel “shamed” into being better; you feel inspired to be whole.
1 John 3:20 KJV
For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

5. A Lasting Change in Direction
Refining fire leaves a mark. Emotional “highs” usually fade by Monday morning, but a genuine encounter results in a long-term trajectory shift.
You might lose interest in old habits that no longer serve your soul.
You might find a new, unshakeable sense of purpose.
The “gravity” of the world simply doesn’t pull on you the same way it used to.
It is this journey that leads you to study and accept God’s word as the anchor for your life and the Holy spirit as your strength.
Conclusively, your journey with Jesus Christ by salvation is the greatest miracle you would ever seek for. Guard it and nurture that relationship. Don’t try to live by the rules of the law, but let this relationship be built on deep respect and honour to God.
God bless us in this journey of Eternity!
